Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, an applicant must:
- Be a for-profit business physically located and operating in Iron, Gogebic, or Ontonagon Counties in Michigan.
- Have engaged with MTEC SmartZone, Michigan SBDC, or KEDA within the past six months. Qualifying engagements include consultations, workshops, intake sessions, or other documented services.
- Meet SBSH business size requirements (fewer than 500 employees).
- Have not received a previous SBSH Direct Grant from MTEC SmartZone.
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to complete the proposed project and utilize funds within the required timeline.
Eligible Use of Funds
Grant funds may be used for:
- Equipment, technology, or tools up to the $4,999 limit.
- Specialized consulting or professional services not provided directly by the Hub.
- Fees related to new certifications or licenses that support business growth.
- Other growth-focused needs approved by the program administrator.
Prohibited Use of Funds
Funds may not be used for:
- Rent, utilities, payroll, or regular operating expenses, including the purchase of inventory and the cost of goods sold.
- Building construction, renovations, or major infrastructure.
- Membership renewals, recurring licensing fees, or ongoing subscriptions.
- Expenses reimbursed through other state or federal programs.
- Activities or purchases that conflict with SBSH rules and restrictions.
