MTEC SmartZone announces that SwimSmart Warning Systems has been approved for a Business Accelerator Fund (BAF) award of $20,000 for continued development of their internet-connected beach warning system. This system connects to the National Weather Service’s (NWS) database to match the beacons to the area swim risk forecast. SwimSmart has several new installations contracted this year in Michigan including locations in Manistee, Ludington, and Moran Township as well as Racine County, Wisconsin, which will bring their total installations up to nine beaches across the the two states.
“We have some very big developments in the works for SwimSmart, receiving the BAF grant allows us to keep the momentum going at such a critical time in our business. This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Jon Leinonen and the MTEC SmartZone team”, says Jacob Soter, Manager of SwimSmart.
SwimSmart Warning Systems began its entrepreneurial journey under the guidance of the MTEC team in Houghton, MI. SwimSmart has since relocated to Marquette, MI, where it has become a client of MTEC’s satellite office – Innovate Marquette SmartZone of Marquttee, MI.
The Business Accelerator Fund is available through the Michigan Small Business Development Center (MSBDC) to participating business accelerators in Michigan’s statewide SmartZone network. These funds are used toward the delivery of specialized services that are not otherwise available to assist advanced technology companies regardless of the company’s geography.
