Houghton-Hancock, Mich. – Monday, September 29, 2025 – MTEC SmartZone is pleased to announce Wayne Gersie to its Board of Directors. He brings a wealth of experience that will help advance our mission of accelerating business growth in the Western Upper Peninsula.
Wayne Gersie currently serves as Vice President for Community Engagement at Michigan Technological University. Prior to joining Michigan Tech, Dr. Gersie held several positions, including Assistant Research Professor and Chief Diversity Officer at Penn State’s Applied Research Laboratory. He is also the founder of Oasis Strategic Consulting LLC.
Dr. Gersie holds a PhD in Workforce Education and Development from Penn State, focusing on human resources; an MEd in Counselor Education from Penn State; and a BS in Exercise and Sports Medicine (with health education emphasis) from Penn State. He also holds leadership and management certificates from Harvard University’s Institute for Management & Leadership Education, Cornell University’s ILR School, and the Center for Creative Leadership.
Gersie will bring fresh insight, expertise, and a strong level of commitment to regional growth. With his expertise in community engagement, cultural awareness, and inclusivity, Dr. Gersie is perfectly positioned to support MTEC SmartZone in various ways.
