MTEC SmartZone is excited to announce a new member of the team this summer, Austin Salani! Austin is a third-year Government modified with Economics and Philosophy (PPE) student at Dartmouth College. He is also a member of the NCAA Division I, Dartmouth Men’s ice hockey team.
Born and raised in Hancock, Austin graduated from Hancock Central High School. During his time there, he was an outstanding student academically and a dedicated multisport athlete. Throughout all four years of high school, he competed in varsity hockey, football, golf, and track.
In his pursuit to play collegiate hockey, he played three years of junior hockey for the Austin Bruins in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) to further develop his skills. In his third season, he was named team captain, while tying the single-season goals record and breaking the single-season points record.
Not only is Austin a Division I athlete, but he is also committed to his studies and education at Dartmouth. He has maintained a 3.8 GPA while at an Ivy League institution.
As a Business Development Intern, Austin will support MTEC’s AMMP Accelerator Program. In this role, he will help track milestones, organize data, coordinate event and travel logistics, and support everyday program operations. By supporting both the team and founders, his help will play a key role in ensuring the program’s continued success.
Austin’s passion for business, coupled with the discipline and leadership required to compete a high-level athlete, make him a valuable addition to the MTEC team. As a proud Upper Peninsula native, Austin is passionate about the entrepreneurial success of the region and beyond. His work will help support innovative startups and contribute to a stronger, more innovative ecosystem in the Western UP.
Outside of the office (and the rink!) Austin enjoys playing the guitar, surfing, and playing golf. You’ll often find him at Portage Lake Golf Course during the summer.
