Michigan Tech Enterprise Corporation (MTEC) is a Michigan non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. MTEC is the designated organization that manages
the Houghton/Hancock SmartZone. The organization is chartered to develop business incubators and perform marketing and property improvements
to attract high-tech businesses. Currently there are nine board members.

PHILIP MUSSER
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

Philip Musser is currently Executive Director of the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance, a private non-profit, 300-corporate member regional
economic development organization serving Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga Counties. He serves on various local, state and national Boards including
the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance, the Michigan Tech Enterprise Corporation (SmartZone), the Michigan District Export Council, and the
Keweenaw Land Trust.

DAVID D. REED
CO-CHAIR
|
David D. Reed is the Vice President for Research at Michigan Technological University, as well as a professor in the school of Forest Resources
and Environmental Science. He has been a principal investigator or co-investigator on over $9 million in externally funded projects involving
researchers from MTU as well as other institutions including the University of Michigan and Harvard University. Among his many accomplishments
Dr. Reed received the Scientific Achievement Award from the International Union of Forest Research Organizations in 2000.

GLENN ANDERSON
SECRETARY

Glenn Anderson has been City Manager for Hancock, Michigan since 1996. Prior to working for Hancock, Glenn served the cities of Ontonagon,
for 13 years, and Baraga, for 2 years, as City Manager. He received his masters from Northern Michigan University. He is a Hancock Rotarian.
Glenn and his wife have three children.

SCOTT MACINNES
TREASURER

Scott MacInnes has been the Houghton City Manager for 13 years. Following his graduation from Michigan Technological University, Scott began
working for the city in 1974 as Recreation Director. In 1980 he became the Assistant City Manager and in 1997 was hired for his current position.
Scott has two children and is married to Betty MacInnes.

TOM MERZ

Tom Merz is the Professor of Economics and Associate Dean in the School of Business and Economics at Michigan Technological University. He served as Mayor for the city of Houghton, Michigan, from 1996-2006.

ALAN WEST
|
Alan West is President & C.E.O. of Carmell Therapeutics. Prior to Carmell Therapeutics he was the Executive in Residence at the Pittsburgh Life
Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG). At PLSG he worked with over 40 entrepreneurs and start-up companies in the Life Sciences, providing business planning
and strategic assistance. In 2003, he became the first C.E.O. of the Michigan Tech SmartZone. In his career, he has raised more than $50M through
private and public offerings and holds numerous patents.

JOSEPH DANCY

Joseph Dancy is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas, Texas, teaching Oil & Gas Law,
Oil & Gas Environmental Law, and Environmental Law. He also is part of the oversight board of the Michigan Technological School of
Business Applied Portfolio Management Program as well as President of the LSGI Technology Venture Fund LP. His investment ideas
have been featured in Barron’s, Forbes, Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal.

DINAH ADKINS

Dinah Adkins served as President and CEO of the National Business Incubation Association for 21 years. Under Adkins’ direction, the Association
developed many products and services, including publications, training, research and consulting activities for members – representing 67 nations
– and customers. “MTEC SmartZone is committed to the best practices of entrepreneurship support; I am thrilled to help in any way I can,” Adkins states.
Ms. Adkins is an author and coauthor of many articles and books including, “Best Practices in Action – Guidelines for Implementing First-Class Business
Incubation Programs,” (Athens, Ohio: National Business Incubation Association, 2010).

PETER W. FARNER

Peter W. Farner - Currently a Partner in TGap Ventures, successfully raising two funds and actively investing millions, Farner has been active in emerging ventures since 1984. He served in business development roles and as Founder and CEO for technology, software and service companies, successfully contracting with more than a dozen Fortune 500 companies. Additionally, Farner holds two United States patents.
“I am excited to get involved with MTEC SmartZone, helping Houghton, Hancock and Michigan Tech capitalize on the entrepreneurial spirit and technologies emerging in the Keweenaw Peninsula,” Farner states.
In 2011, Mr. Farner was appointed by Governor Snyder to the Michigan Early Stage Venture Investment Corporation Board of Directors.

DAVE HAVILAND

Dave Haviland - Prior to founding Phimation in 2007, Haviland served as an operations, corporate development and marketing leader at four telecom/media startups. For over 15 years, Haviland has been consulting and working with companies that are starting or transitioning to a new growth stage.
“This region has a strong set of economic development leaders, and I’m looking forward to supporting them as they continue their efforts to create new growth for the community,” Haviland states.
Mr. Haviland is a featured blogger for Crain’s Detroit Business on matters related to business growth and is a contributor to industry publications on Stage 2 related topics.
