Creating objects from plastic has traditionally been more of an art than a science, not anymore. Michigan Tech professor, Mahesh Gupta has developed a new technology that could change the way in which we produce objects from plastic!
Following his years of research, he and his graduate students have created unique polymer (plastic) processing simulation software. Decreasing trial and error, while increasing efficiency, the software saves plastic manufacturers time and money. Companies in the plastic industry can now simulate the manufacturing process on computer, evaluate the result, and fabricate products with confidence.

America’s most controversial environmental problems are oil importing, global warming and the manufacturing unemployment. UP Steel’s amazing microwave technology was developed by Research Leader, Dr. Huang and offers solutions to these issues.
The technology heats and converts biomass and iron ore into gasoline and steel. The heat source for this process is microwaves. Huang’s bench-scale steel mill is roughly the size of a home microwave oven. This heat process produces molten steel, by the magnetrons of six home microwave ovens arranged around a chamber.
The MTEC SmartZone located in the Upper Peninsula has provided UP Steel with the ability to be near one of the most natural locations for biomass and iron ore needed for this process.
